Hair Brained Ideas Feb. 4th, 2008 @ 01:01 am
Ok, I have been having crazy ideas for quite some time now. Problem is that I have the attention span of a 3rd grader on a sugar binge and the budget to match. Some of them just seem nifty to do, some of them are buisness ideas (get rich quick schemes to some), and others have real purpose (when I figure it out, I'll let you know). The reason that I am listing them here is so I can remember them myself. I'm gonna update the list as  I remember what they are and get them down. Feel free to chime in with support or infeasibility/impossibility claims to them. I am now accepting applications for 8-year olds to point out the flaws in my master plans.

1.  Design and build a functional suit of power armor (reasonably priced)
2.  Design and build a costume/fake suit of power armor / mech of some flavor.
3.  Start a miniatures production company (games & model trains).
4.  Build a model train table in the basement.
5.  Make a suit of european fullplate armor - either out of sheet metal, plastic paint buckets, or cardboard
6.  Make a suit of japanese samurai armor - either properly, or cosplay grade
7.  Make 1 of several ideas for music videos for the Katsucon AMVs
8.  Start a buisness of building and selling my own brand of single-speed bicycles
9.  Go back to college and get some flavor of degree
10. Get a stable "real" job that can actually pay all of the bills and not eat up 80hrs a week

movie night Feb. 4th, 2008 @ 12:50 am
Me and [info]lohquesse just saw Sweeny Todd tonight. Neat flick. The ending was different, but not expected considering the rest of it. My quick description? Let Tim Burton make a music video for Queensryche using set, cast & prop leftovers from Betelgeuse and Edward Scissorhands.  That story was as twisted and dark as Operation Mindcrime.

And as for the big game (commercials), Wanted looks interesting. Iron Man is looking better and better!

This is passed on from a flagmate from Puzzle Pirates, [info]jacquilynne
For the first three people that reply to me and re-post this challenge - I will send you something groovy.

It might be something I've made, or something cool from my hidden stash of fabulousity, it might be a mix CD - or a rubber duck, a book I think you will enjoy, or something else that is awesome.

Whatever it is, I promise that I will get it to you in 365 days or less. (I will need your snail mail if you're not local, please send to moliarity at aol dot com).

The only thing you need to do in order to participate is to be one of the first three to reply to this, AND post this very same thing on YOUR live journal - cause its fun to give people stuff

Been awhile... Sep. 6th, 2007 @ 01:06 am
Back when I first started my LJ account, it was so I could track the progress of my mental meds. After about 3 days, it turned into a good way to keep tabs on friends and their lives, exploits & news. Several months later, and I relized that I forgot that I should probably post something myself, after all, wasn't that the initial reason? Anyway, enough with the ramblings and on with the update. I'm not going to go into much detail on this one, but may later, once I get my camera unloaded.

About 3 weeks ago, I finally had my truck towed away. Got $125 for it for scrap metal. Hated to see it go, but it would take over $3k to make it run again. I already have 2 other tagged and running cars, and the homeowners ASSociation said get rid of it or start eating fines and possible forclosure.

This past saturday, I actually got to go mountain biking for the first time since march. Need to go back again...

Sunday was TCEP, and I ran a game of Lego Battletech. Pics to come shortly.

Monday me and [info]lohquesse went to the MD Rennisance Faire. Seen people I haven't seen in awhile, got hugs, good music. Even made a chainmail belt. Goin back this sunday.

Over the past few night, I got up the first section of new Ikea shelving, so I can start displaying some of my Lego models (and make better use of the space that I do have).

Friday, I have to renew my drivers licence, get the emmisions done on my new(er) car, and finish and deliver a project for  [info]tth/ MSD.

I just followed some links, and just added about 20 people to my friends lists.

More to come tomorrow...

Today is getting stranger and stranger Jul. 7th, 2007 @ 10:59 am

Today is a convergence of many strange things for me. First of all, the house is clean (results of the party on the 4th). We should do it more often, but things get in the way. The front porch does not have any bikes on it - a first in over 6 months or more. I'm up, dressed, and about before noon on a saturday. There is nothing major scheduled for this weekend (convention, party). I do not have to go to my normal work. Tonight we do have plans to go to my parent's house for dinner (playing with fire and meat on the deck), but afterwards, we're probably doing a movie - they want to see Transformers. We'll gladly pay to see it again (AWSOME movie!). I have time today to go to the dump and drop off some junk. And I have time this weekend to finally get about a zillion things posted on ebay (we need both the money and the room). To top it off, somebody bought my wrecked truck. I'm only giving it a 50/50 of actually going through, but it's better than nothing.

I'm not used to having a both relaxed and productive weekend....

Mabey we can find time to get online on Puzzle Pirates and jump in a blockade or two...

Tryin out some new avatars. Also made dinner tonight. Another successful lack of food poisoning while practicing Mad Science Cooking!  I think it started as an omlet (3 eggs each). Add 2 slices of canadian bacon (diced), a handfull of leftover rotisserie chicken, a dash of leftover shredded taco-mix cheese, a handfull of cubed sharp cheddar cheese (low-fat), and 1 shredded carrot. Add heat, flip and repeat. Top with a light drizzle of honey, and add a side of Stove-Top stuffing. It was actually resonably tasty! Even [info]lohquesse ate it (and she's picky!).  Great way to use up leftovers. Apparently I get to do it again tomorrow...

Yesterday I ran into a friend from about 10 years ago that was part of the gaming club that I was in while in high school, and played Battletech. Apparently they are still meeting twice a month, and I'm planning on going back over there this saturday and try to get a game in.

» I love the internet!
It makes obscure hobbies that much easier to feed (and find others with the same interests so you can pick their brain for answers!). For example, I already have a considerable ammount of equipment for pewter/lead miniature casting. Most of it comes from MicroMark, and can cost a pretty penny. For example, the type-160 bismuth alloy that I use costs about $12 for an 8oz nugget. I did find a cheaper source on eBay, where I can get a 1lb nugget for about $15. Now considering that the 8oz nugget is enough to make about 5-10 D&D figures. better than store prices, but it still gets a little pricey (I'm real cheap). The other day I was checking around for prices on fishing sinkers, as a possible cheaper source for metal. What I stumbled upon at Bass Pro Shops was a 5lb lot of lead bars for $6. MUCH better. The only problem was that I needed a hotter hot pot for melting lead. Also on Bass Pro Shop's site was an electric lead hot pot for $45. Gotta go shopping.

Other casting goodies that I found recently on Instructables.com was a plastic vaccum-formed mold maker and an aluminum furnace. Now all I have to do is find a good mold-making material that will withstand 800-degree molten aluminum...

A few days ago [info]punkwalrus posted an invitation to challenge him to answer 7 questions about anyone. The cost was that it had to be posed in our LJ (see #8). These were the following questions.

Reply to this post saying, "SMOF!" and,
1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll challenge you to try something.
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something I've always wanted to ask you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this in your journal

And the answers are...

1. You know how to assemble a mean bike
2. Sing a sweet love ballad to your wife with a rose in your teeth that is so touching, she doesn't laugh
3. Burnt Umber
4. You are a solid, dedicated individual who makes a good friend.
5. You painting miniatures
6. A bear
7. You ever going to cut that hair?

» It's Wedendsday and i'm still new at titles...
Well, good news on the meds, the excessive hyper energy from the first few days has passed, and it's evening out now. Wasn't quite to the stage of jitters, but I was having trouble sitting still for more than 5 seconds. Mood has also been higher than normal for the most of the pat few days. So far, so good...

I actually cooked dinner tonight (hamburger helper), haven't done that in awhile. [info]lohquesse was happy about that. For dessert, we were trying some more of the japanese junk food that we bought at katsucon. Banana-filled pocky, and multiple flavors of Daifuku (fruit-filled rice-gummy cookies). Sounds strange, but real tasty.

Saw a nifty tip on Instructables.com for taking the scratches out of CD's with Brasso metal polish and a paper towel. Couldn't find the right brand name, but tried it anyway, and it works! Fixed a badly skipping Metallica CD and it plays like new now. 5 more CD's to fix tomorrow....

I actually got to play Puzzle Pirates for about 2 hours last night, first time in over a week. Did a little pillaging, stabbed some brigands, moved my sloop from one island to the next, got a new chart that I didn't already have. Productive night. Mabey I'll get on there again tonight.

To finish things off, the guy from BrickCommander.com just built a Lego model of the Sulaco (starship from the movie Aliens) in 1:1600 scale (the same scale as the BIG Lego Star Wars Star Destroyer). Neat, can't wait till he gets the LDraw instructions available.
» New Meds

Thursday I went to the doctor and got my first physical since...ever. Got blood taken, and other stuff. Also got a prescription for Welbutrin. In the past, I would have been opposed to this, but recently, I have been having problems dealing with things, and I think I needed help. It's now Monday night, and I believe I'm definately doing better. More energy, better mood, and sleeping less (a good thing, I was sleeping 8-10 hours a day).

Another thing that was good this past weekend was that I went to katsucon. I was working and got to see next to none of the programming, but that isn't why I go, it's for the people time. Kinda like going to Renfair. See the sights, meet the people, eat the food.

It's late, will try to post some more later (I'm new to this whole LJ thing).

» Here I am

Figured it was about time to get on here, peer pressure finally got to me. That, and I wanted to keep a journal of my moods and activities since I started a new prescription, so I can track the progress. That, and I can hopefully keep up with people now.
